Hi, gang,
Sorry for the long silence but we've just moved and I had to set up a new office and
catch up on 52,456 E Mails (from our list of course). The news on the Combat movie is
relatively light. An important!! director has indicated interest in the project, but his
schedule puts the movie into production in June 97. (I think we'll still be alive then).
Paramount Pictures is very high on the project (and considering that Mission Impossible
has done nearly $170 million domestic, that's not surprising). Word has it that Bill
Wisher is working on his rewrite of the script and that exciting plot elements are
happening (although the same D-Day period story is on tap). Willis is still very excited
about the project and I think he'll be ready next summer to attack new territory.
Incidentally, Paramount seems to have the Jones for WW2 all of a sudden. They have an
Arnold Schwarzenegger movie going into production soon called "On Wings of
Eagles" in which Arnold plays a German in charge of an Allied POW camp and they've
just announced a Steven Spielberg Tom Hanks collaboration (which is untitled) but takes
place at D-Day as well.
While "Combat!" gestates at Paramount, I am working on some new projects,
including an update of the 1951 Sam Fuller classic "The Steel Helmet" and a
remake of the 1963 film, "The V.I.P's" (which has absolutely no combat in it).
By the way, if anyone has a VHS copy of that film in their collection, I would love to get
a copy.
I'll continue to keep you posted from the front.
Best,
Steve Rubin
