These are all the directors for the TV series Combat! Included are the titles
of episodes that each directed, additional credits, and comments. Directors are listed in
alphabetical order; episodes are listed in production order.
The only film directing credit I can find for Alan Crosland, Jr. is 1975's "The
Secret of Bigfoot." For TV he directed episodes of "MacGyver" and
"Garrison's Gorillas." and was a frequent director with "The Wild, Wild
West." His father (?) Alan Crosland had a distinguished directing career dating back
to 1920, including the ground-breaking "The Jazz Singer."
In Combat!, Crosland didn't distinguish himself with any of his episodes.
"Odyssey" is by far the best, but that due more to Morrow and a strong script
than to anything the director did.
Tom Gries has had a long career directing for television. He directed for such action
shows as "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." and "Garrison's Gorillas." He
directed Vic Morrow and Alan Alda in Truman Capote's "The Glass House"
Sagal has an extensive list of credits spanning three decades. He has directed TV
series, TV films, mini-series, and theatrical releases. A short list includes "The
Man From U.N.C.L.E.", "The Thousand Plane Raid," "Night Gallery,"
"Hauser's Memory," "The Omega
Man," "Rich Man, Poor Man," and "The Awakening Land."
Sagal died May 22, 1981 on the third day of filming the made-for-tv film "World
War III". He died on the set as he stepped into a helicopter blade, just a year
before Morrow's tragic on-set death due to a helicopter crash.
