By Rose Ann Schrock (Carbine) on Unrecorded Date:

I am an avid Hanley fan so this episode has always been very high on my top Combat favorites list. I've seen this episode a hundred times, and I always loved the very end because it really gives you a look into the soul of the "tough" Lt.,
as well as the other men in King Co. Hanley is vey upset and he decides to leave the wounded German in the pillbox. When the German calls for him to come back, Hanley retorts, "For all I care you can sit here and rot!" He then, of course, decides to help the krout despite his anger. This shows us that deep down, all of "our" boys are caring inside, even if the war has hardened them.
