Combat Fan Page Discussion Forum: Episodes: Counterplay: A Powerful Episode

After finally getting to HILLS ARE FOR HEROES in my backlog of COMBAT episodes, I was not ready for another emotionally wrenching one. COUNTERPLAY is nowhere near as great as HILLS ARE FOR HEROES. It relies on coincidence a bit too much. However, it is very well-acted by guest stars Mark Richman (although his "French" accent would never have fooled some of us) and H.M Wynant (who does not last long enough in the show). The story builds to a reasonably exciting climax and is gripping throughout. But the main reason to make a point of seeing COUNTERPLAY is the final scene when the elderly resistance fighter is shot and his young son rushes to his side. I was greatly moved by this powerful scene. It elevated COUNTERPLAY into the list of essential COMBAT episodes, in my opinion.
