Combat Fan Page Discussion Forum: Episodes: Day in June, A: A different point of view
By Rachel L. Ohlendorf (Whitequeen1) on Unrecorded Date:

"A Day in June" is one of my favorite episodes, because you get to see the characters in such a different setting and atmosphere. Because half the show takes place before they even land at Omaha, the writers and actors were able to explore the pre-campaign worries, fears and expectations experienced by the characters. It's a rare look at the boys in our squad before war sobered them and made them grow up.

I love the friendly but at the same time serious competition for Hazel that exists between Hanley and Saunders. We never actually see Saunders with Hazel, so it easy to suppose that she never enjoyed his attention the way she does Hanley’s. But you know, by its very omission the episode leaves open the possibility that Saunders may have also spent time with her. I think this possibility adds dimension to the interplay between the two sergeants. So long from your friendly 349th

Yes, it does. Especially in Hanley's comment to Saunders: "You thought about getting to town and, last Saturday, you not only thought about it, you got there". He seems pretty unhappy when saying it, too. Always wondered what Hanley meant about Saunders "getting there". Isn't that implying some kind of success on Saunders' part? I think that Saunders is certainly good-looking enough to interest Hazel. Lucky lady, indeed.

I live in Canada and COMBAT is one of my all time favourite shows. I have never seen this episode aired on the usual channel, History Television, so if anyone knows please don't hesitiate to let me know.
Thanks.
