Combat Fan Page Discussion Forum: General Discussion: “COMBAT! THE NIGHT BEFORE D-DAY”
By Nancy LionStorm (349hvywpnscrew) on Unrecorded Date:

‘Twas the night before D-Day, and in the ship’s hold
Not a G.I. was smiling cause he’d won the gold.
Shecky kept counting his dough, what the heck?
Nothing to do, but sleep on the deck.

Caddy and Theo were crooning ‘bout sheep.
Not dreaming one would die, the other would weep.
Nor could he ever imagine the day
He’d change his name to Caje, Paul LaMay.

Littlejohn was packing his kit with great care
Hoping a filly’d be born to his mare.
He knew mom and dad would be safe from all harm.
Cause ‘Uncle’ had promised to help with the farm.

Billy Nelson was writing to sweet Evelyn.
Sad now he’d left her untouched, still virgin.
While the kid settled to sleep in his bunk
He wished he hadn’t been such a dumb monk.

Kirby was livid, really fit to be tied
Cause a ‘ringer’ had taken him for a ride.
Too many bets with the mug who had rambled
This was the only time he’d ever gambled.

Doc1 counted sulfur and bandages.
Soothed himself with homilies and adages.
Couldn’t guess he was in for such a ‘short run’,
Or he’da let his character have more fun.

Hanley remembered a girl named Mable.
Glad now he hadn’t bought her a sable.
No need to dwell on how he’d command
Tomorrow when First Squad hit the sand.

Saunders was dreaming ‘bout stockings of silk
Draped on the bedpost when they’d gone full hilt.
Two-timing Mable was still on his mind.
She was such a warm, wanton, willing find.

Doc2 isn’t yet part of this tale,
’Til Kirby’s trial when MP–ing gets stale.
So one fine day, not too long after June
Doc2 learns quick how to bind up a wound.

These are the guys we love, ever so much,
So have sweet dreams ‘bout the whole bunch.
They’re naughty and nice, and know how to fight.
In a foxhole with them we’d spend any night.

So long from your friendly 349th

Nancy,
Your poem was pretty good but you had some mistakes. First, the girl that Saunders and Hanley liked was Hazel, not Mabel! I should know because I've seen A Day In June about ten time!
You should watch it again before you try to write a poem about it. We all make mistakes.

Rose

Rose sure hit the mark with her comments, so I took another look at "ADiJ", changed Caddy's stanza and hopefully improved on a few of the others. So here's the new and improved (I hope)...

Dear Nancy,
I love your revised poem. It was really great. Thanks for not getting offended about my criticizm. I didn't mean to sound picky, I just wanted to point out the mistakes. Keep writing and watching Combat. I hope that we can be friends.
A Fellow Fan,
Rose
PS: Nancy, you wouldn't have any ideas about how I could get in touch with Rick Jason do you? I'm only 18 and I live in Ohio, so going to any reunions is out of the question.

By Nancy LionStorm (349hvywpnscrew) on Unrecorded Date:

Dear Rose,

Unfortunately I don't have any idea about how to get in touch with Rick Jason. I'm pinching pennies so that I can meet the cast at Recon 2000. For me this means no Christmas or birthday buying, no movie going, no new outfits, no eating out (even at cheap take out joints), paperbagging my lunch, walking as much as possible to save on the high price of California gasoline, and taking a part-time job to save so I can attend Recon2000.

Other than going to the Recon I don't know of any other way of get in touch with the cast of Combat. So long, your friendly 349th

Dear Nancy,
Thank you so very much for caring enough to write me back. I envy you. I really wish that I could attend Recon 2000. I would be very glad to save up money for it, but I just live too far away to attend. (I live in Ohio) I hope that you have a lot of fun there. As you probably already know, Rick Jason is my favorite actor in the Combat cast. If you are lucky enough to get a chance to
talk to him personally, I would be very grateful if you would tell him about my problem and ask him how I could get in touch with him quickly.

Nancy,
I forgot to give you my adresses. If you would give them to Mr. Jason I would be thrilled. All I want is to write to him and get his autograph or something. He's awsome!

Dear Nancy,
I didn't have your E mail adress, so I had to write you here. Thank you, thank you, thak you!
You will never know how grateful that I am. I wanted his autograph so badly! I don't have a very good picture of him, so could you buy one for me at Recon? I would be more than happy to pay for the photo, no matter what the cost is. Just send the autographed picture to me and tell me what it cost you, and I will pay for everything. It was very thoughtful of you. Keep looking here for other E mailed letters from me.

Your Friend,
Rose
PS: Tell Rick that I think he's marvelous!
