SUTTON ROLEY
Director for TV Series Combat!

Sutton Roley's directing style is perhaps the easiest to identify of all the Combat! directors. He loved to use long, often complex, dolly shots and crane setups. The camera is very mobile when Roley is behind it. He is able to bring much motion to the visuals even within very cramped stories such as "Glow Against The Sky" and "A Rare Vintage."

He seems to eschew the hand-held camera in favor of the fluidity of movement offered by the dolly. He also likes to crowd the frame in moments of intensity, putting a four-shot into a frame than can only comfortably hold a single head-and- shoulders shot, or filming a tight closeup on a portion of the face to fill the entire screen.

He directed for "12 O'Clock High," "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," "Starsky and Hutch," and seven episodes of "Garrison's Gorillas."
